2018 Season Info

SMSA is linked in with Winnipeg South West Youth Softball league, which means that SMSA teams will be allocated into a specific “loop” of random teams.  This will necessitate travel to Winnipeg (although a roughly equal number of home games will be played in Oakbank and/or Dugald).

Teams play on specific days of the week according to age group, as follows:

LTP – Tuesdays/Thursdays – Springfield Middle School (SMS)

Here are the ‘home’ diamonds for the following teams:

U10 – Mondays/Wednesdays – OBCC Diamond 2
U12 – Tuesdays/Thursdays – OBCC Diamond 2
U14 – Mondays/Wednesdays – Springfield Middle School
U19 – Mondays/Wednesdays – Springfield Collegiate (SCI)

Note that these are all shared diamonds. It is not possible to coordinate using a diamond outside of your regularly-scheduled games without first coordinating through SMSA’s scheduler, Rhonda Tougas. Rhonda’s email is rhondatougas@gmail.com and her mobile number is (204) 799-2382.

WHEN DO GAMES START? Games usually start at 7:00pm, although most coaches will expect players to arrive and be ready for warm-ups at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before game time. Coaches will set dedicated practice days/times once the final roster is complete.

WHEN DOES THE SEASON START?  The season will begin in approximately late April/early May, weather depending, and continue until the end of June/early July.  Provincial Championships (often just called “Provincials”), for those teams participating, take place in late June/early July, and the schedule for these can be found on the Softball Manitoba website. Further information on Provincials can be obtained from your head coach. It is generally assumed that SMSA B1 teams will participate at Provincials.

As the season begins, each Springfield Heat team will have its own page here on the SMSA website (under “Teams” in the menu above).  This is where you will find team schedules and coach contact information.

Don’t forget: we run regular skills and pitching/catching clinics during the Winter season to give players a chance to refine their existing skills and learn new ones.  Click on Clinics above in the menu for more information.
